Viola School District Flips the Switch on Solar

Dedicated to innovation, education, and sustainably operating the campus, Viola School District (VSD) partnered with Today’s Power, Inc. (TPI) to construct a 480-kW solar array located on their campus. The VSD solar project was designed to offset the energy use of the campus. Projected to produce 90% of the entire districts’ energy usage per year, the 1,280-panel system can produce over 850,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) annually. North Arkansas Electric Cooperative will provide the rest of VSD’s energy needs.

Viola School District Superintendent, John May, said that “As a public school district, we feel it is our duty and obligation to use all available resources to be fiscally responsible. The development of a clean, renewable energy system for our campus is an excellent example of how we are fulfilling that responsibility. As the district’s carbon footprint is reduced, savings are realized. We are pleased to be working with Today’s Power, which has proven to be professional and dependable.”

TPI was chosen as Viola School District’s energy partner via a request for proposal process, and the 20-year deal with TPI is a win-win for Viola School District and its students. The solar facility is one way for the district to be fiscally responsible and environmentally sustainable, and savings from the system will be reallocated to school district resources.

We are pleased to collaborate with the Viola School District as they implement cutting-edge technology,” Today’s Power, Inc. President, Michael Henderson, said. “All of their students would benefit from lower-cost power while also contributing to a healthier climate,” he said.
